As a single, professional woman, she was indeed something of an anomaly for a time when "career girl" was almost a disparaging term, suggesting, at best a hardened, perhaps "man hating" old maid, or someone to unattractive to get one.

Her infatuation for Me. Boynton showed that she was human underneath the snarky exterior. Her home interactions with Mrs. Davis are a pleasant break from the school shenanigans, though they often followed her home. Beyond his screeching, Crenna is a great bumbling partner in crime.

The show went downhill in the last season's "retooling," getting rid of Boyington, the private school, etc. Adding the lecherous gym teacher's Bluto like sexual harassment of Connie was a sour contrast to her feckless, but sweet and sincere mooning over Boynton. I think the ratings went down after the change. The series doesn't get the adulation of Lucy or the Honeymooners, but I count it as one of the best sitcoms of the 50sNathan Detroithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13976284155716750898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1130871072830136009.post-91707703023773927802022-01-25T16:27:41.357-08:002022-01-25T16:27:41.357-08:00Just one comment. I love Eve Arden and wish she had done more in the 60s and 70s, but like so many "classic films you have to love," I never understood this one. It usually seemed to have to do with poor writing and editing versus the actors being bad on purpose. I mean they want a check every week so wouldn’t they try their hardest? Where I love 'Our Miss Brooks' it is from it's time. There's a reason few surviving shows from then are still available. Acting back then was stage based. It took decades for the natural style of acting we use today to come into use. I would remind you though that this cast had done 'Our Miss Brooks' for 5 years on the radio. Their acting on TV matches how acting was done on the radio.frenchjr25https://www.blogger.com/profile/02989877727295252794noreply@blogger.com
